Cody Stegman

Meet Your FFL / SOT Consultant

My journey into the firearms industry began when I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a Federal Firearms Licensee out of a small home office. Becoming a 07 Manufacturer and SOT, I was able to convert my hobby and passion into a lucrative career I actually enjoyed! Early on, I recognized that the role of an FFL holder is not only about running a business but also about upholding the values of safety, responsibility, and compliance within the firearms community. After observing a general lack of adherence to those ideals in the firearms retail space, I was able to grow my business from my small home office into a 5,500 sq ft retail store and machine gun range by simply doing things the right way. That meant doing right by myself, my customers, and the ATF.
When I obtained my Federal Firearms License, it opened a gateway of opportunities for me to engage in the business of selling and transferring firearms, but I knew that my responsibilities as an FFL holder extended beyond that. My commitment to safety and compliance became the cornerstone of my business, and I invested significant time and effort to ensure I was well-versed in all federal, state, and local firearm regulations. The care and attention I put into furthering these aspects of being a responsible FFL paid dividends during my ATF audits, as well as my general working relationship with the local ATF personnel.
Understanding the complexities of the National Firearms Act (NFA), the Gun Control Act (GCA), and other relevant statutes was crucial to providing the highest level of service to my customers and avoiding issues down the road. I sought out seminars, workshops, and conferences to continuously expand my knowledge and stay updated on any changes in the industry’s legal landscape.
Safety has always been my top priority. Establishing rigorous safety protocols and conducting regular training sessions for staff and customers not only ensured compliance but also instilled confidence in my clientele. By placing safety at the forefront, I earned the trust of law enforcement agencies and became a respected and reputable FFL holder within my community.
I am proud to have actively contributed to local and national firearms advocacy groups, advocating for responsible firearms ownership and promoting education about firearms. My involvement in these organizations has not only broadened my network but also provided me with valuable insights into the industry, which I’m eager to share with aspiring FFL holders like yourself.
As an experienced FFL holder, I find great joy in helping others achieve their dreams of becoming licensed firearm dealers. I understand the challenges and uncertainties that come with this journey, and I am here to offer guidance and support. Whether you need assistance with the application process, advice on building a compliant and customer-friendly business, or insights into navigating the industry landscape, I am ready to share my knowledge to help you succeed!
Becoming a Federal Firearms Licensee is a fulfilling and rewarding endeavor. It allows you to serve your community, empower responsible firearm owners, and contribute positively to the firearms industry. My experience as an FFL holder has been an incredible journey of growth and learning, and I look forward to being a part of your journey as you embark on this exciting path.

We're here to make sure that you get it done right, right from the start.  Understand options for your FFL business and let us guide you through the process.

We simply want to help you get your firearms business up and running quickly, and efficiently!

It takes about 60-90 days to get a Federal Firearms License from the ATF. To give yourself the best chances of getting approved our services guide you through the process.

The most common type of FFL, a Type 01 firearm dealer’s license, costs $200 for the first three years and $90 for each three year renewal thereafter.

Other FFL types cost different amounts. For example, a manufacturer’s FFL (a Type 07 FFL) only costs $150 for the first three years, but the price is the same for each three year renewal.

The Founders and team of experts at MyFFLAttorney.com bring a uniques perspective to obtaining your FFL / SOT. Developed by Firearms Attorney Tim Forshey along with industry marketing experts, actual FFL owners and compliance gurus we're your A Team when it comes to guiding you through the entire process and helping you thrive in a super fun business.

Well, that depends.

If you’re interested in buying and selling guns only, it’s likely that a Type 01 FFL for dealers and gunsmiths is right for you. This is, by far, the most popular type of FFL.

However, if you’d like to also manufacture firearms, you should look at the Type 07 FFL.

Don’t worry – you don’t need to make the decision now. We walk you through each FFL type in our Get Your FFL Course.

Also, if you want to work with profitable NFA firearms like silencers, machine guns, short barreled rifles, and more, you’re going to want to also become an SOT. You can get our FFL and SOT course at bundle pricing.

Our introductory course, the Get Your FFL course, costs $59.95 and will give you the critical information to start making decisions about your FFL business.

However, most FFLs also like to work with NFA firearms (a very popular reason for getting an FFL). You can learn how to do this with our Become an SOT course for $49.95. But, if you purchase the FFL/SOT start-up courses bundle, it's $79.95 for both and there are several other benefits and perks provided with the bundle.

We also offer follow-on training for employees, and even an ATF Compliance Services for operational FFLs.  We offer a'la carte services for discounted legal, compliance and marketing support so you can tap-into our experts as needed once you complete the online courses.

Yes. The ATF allows home-based FFLs! You just need to know how to navigate the process correctly.

In fact, there are more home-based FFLs in this country than there are storefront/brick-and-mortar businesses.

You'll learn about the important considerations you need to know by taking our courses.

Absolutely not!

You are not giving any rights up by getting a federal license. Just like getting a driver’s license doesn’t make you give up any rights, neither does getting a firearms license. However, it does mean you have to follow certain rules.

Yes, the ATF will be able to inspect your licensed location to ensure you have an accurate inventory and records. However, the ATF is only allowed to inspect once every 12 months.

Typically, the ATF only inspects every 5-7 years.
